The photograph below is of several USDA officials, both active and retired, taken in
1961 at a lecture series honoring the USDA Centennial. On the far left is Joseph M. Robertson,
then Assistant Secretary for Administration. Next to him is M. L.
Wilson, Assistant Secretary, and later Under Secretary of Agriculture, 1934-1940, and
Director of Extension Work, 1940-1953. Third is Henry A.
Wallace, Secretary of
Agriculture from 1933 to 1941, and Vice President from 1941 to 1945. To his right is
Charles Murphy, Under Secretary of Agriculture, 1961-1965. Second from the right is Paul Appleby, who was Assistant to Secretary Wallace, and later
Under Secretary, 1940-1944. On the far right is Frank J. Welch, Assistant Secretary for
Federal-State Relations.
