Coordinator (Nutrition Information Specialist)
Exempt, Contingent II, Part-Time Position, Employed by the University of Maryland
The Nutrition Information Specialist is employed as part of a cooperative agreement with the National Agricultural Library (NAL), United States Department of Agriculture.
Location:
Food and Nutrition Information Center, National Agricultural Library, 10301 Baltimore Avenue, Beltsville, MD.
Description:
This position will work with the Web and Reference Team (WRT) to maintain and expand two top-ranked World Wide Web sites: Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) (http://fnic.nal.usda.gov), and Nutrition.gov (NG) (http://www.nutrition.gov).
Responsibilities:
Provide nutrition reference services to government, educators, and consumers.
Assist team in searching, collecting and evaluating resources; organization of resources and content management of two websites.
Precept University of Maryland Dietetic Interns during their technical rotation at the Food and Nutrition Information Center.
Market Web sites and FNIC/NG services to target audiences locally and nationally through educational, Internet, and other relevant information systems, including NAL and FNIC visitors.
Review subject specific bibliographic publications (Resource Lists).
Review materials for the Dietary Guidance Working Group.
The successful candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude, have the ability to manage projects, coordinate multiple tasks, work independently in a fast paced work environment and have a strong interest in web site development.
Qualifications:
Required –
Masters Degree in nutrition or related field OR Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition or related field AND Registered Dietitian (R.D.)
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of other information management software.
Preferred –
Knowledge of HTML coding, Web development software (such as Dreamweaver), database knowledge, and graphic software.
Bibliographic database search experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in giving group presentations preferred; marketing skills a plus.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position is part‑time (20 hours/week), contractual, and funded on a year‑to‑year basis. Health benefits stipend, holiday, sick and annual leave provided.

SNAP-Ed Connection Team Leader
Exempt, Contingent II, Full-Time Position, Employed by the University of Maryland
The SNAP-Ed Connection Team Leader is employed as part of a cooperative agreement with the National Agricultural Library (NAL), United States Department of Agriculture.

Food and Nutrition Information Center, National Agricultural Library, 10301 Baltimore Avenue, Beltsville, MD.
Description:
The individual in this full-time (40 hours/week) position will lead the SNAP-ED Connection Team that develops and maintains a nutrition education and resources website. This project was formerly known as the Food Stamp Nutrition Connection. See http://snap.nal.usda.gov This is a middle-management position that involves website development, team leadership and project management work.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the continued operation of the SNAP-ED Connection in conjunction with the vision provided by the sponsoring Government Agencies.
- Oversee updates and enhancements to the website and database, direct new product development, lead and manage the Team, and work as a project manager. Deliverables for which the Team Leader is responsible include the annual Inter-Agency Agreement and Budget, annual, semi-annual, monthly, and special project reports.
- Prepare meeting agendas and minutes, generate work flows, assign tasks to various Team members, train new staff, serve as a Preceptor to dietetic Interns, demonstrate the project to potential users at conferences, assist with questions from end users and other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Required –
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition required.
- A minimum of two years experience as a nutrition educator.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and editing HTML code.
Preferred –
- Masters Degree and/or RD preferred. Course of study: nutrition education, health science or related field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
